"I know a person or God only in so much as the difference the encounter with that person has made in me."

One of my professors stated this in class this semester and hit me again as I was studying for the exam I am about to blow. What do you think? I've got my thoughts. I'd like to hear yours.

I would tend to agree with that statemnt - we know through experience, either our experience or the told experiences of others. What we experience of God, or anyone else will shape our understanding and knowlege of that person. THat is why sharing our experiences with God is so vital, if we don't, then eople who have attributed bad things to God will only have a negative view of Him

there is more than one way to get to know someone. Experience is one aspect. (It is a huge part of knowing someone though). However, sometimes experiences are skewed by many factors.

hmm. i'm not so sure about this one. 1) it is putting all the responsibility of the verification of reality in relationship on our own interpretation of our own self. i don't think that MY view of the effects of the experience of a relationship is always accurate and unbiased. 2)by default, the statement is saying that only MY experience of the relationship matters, not what the other has experienced in relationship. This is sooooo totally NOT a "for the other" mindset that we find in the Trinitarian relationship....so, yeah. them's my thoughts.
